The Importance of ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1

Why is Coping and Fascia Important?

3% of the total project cost, stronger edge metal is the single most cost-effective enhancement for wind uplift on a commercial roof.

What is ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1?

  • ANSI/SPRI/FM 4435/ES-1 is a test standard developed to determine an edge metal system’s resistance to wind pressure.

  • Establishes minimum acceptable criteria for edge metal performance against wind events.

  • Based on ASCE-7 design loads for buildings & other structures.

  • Pressures are reported as Horizontal (outward) and Vertical (upward) pounds/sq foot (psf).

4 Factors Used to Determine Necessary Pressure

  1. Building Exposure (What is the geographical surroundings of the building?)

  2. Building Category (How is the building going to be used/occupied?)

  3. Building Height

  4. Building Location
